( #about ) Parks in Washoe County are open for business this summer, offering both residents and visitors a wide variety of recreational opportunities. National Park & Recreation Month in July is a good time to refresh our knowledge of all the cool things we have right here in the Reno / Tahoe area. Here are just a few of the things you can do this summer in our Washoe County parks...

  • Discover Your Parklands - These ranger-guided walks are one of the best ways to learn about our unique Washoe County parks. It's free to participate and walks at various parks will be available into September.
  • Free concerts at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Hang out on the lawn on Wednesday evenings and listen to great music by local bands during this series of free summer evening concerts in Spanish Springs.
  • Melio Gaspari Water Play Park at Lazy 5 Park in Spanish Springs. The water play park is open Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Kids of all ages welcome. Daily admission is $3.
  • Artown events at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater - Artown offers a variety of shows at Bartley Ranch Regional Park's outdoor amphitheater during July. Find out more from the Artown calendar.
  • Galena Creek Visitor Center - Enjoy a Friday evening campfire program at the Galena Creek Visitor Center. On July 15, learn about the life of a park ranger. The programs are free with a suggested donation of $5. For information, call (775) 849-4948.
  • Family Executive Course at Washoe Golf Course - A beginner-friendly short course has been incorporated into the existing front nine at Washoe Golf Course. Golfers tee off from specially marked yardages along each fairway and use a special scorecard. The course is available from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. daily. Green fees are only $6 and carts are an additional $6. However, carts are not required to play the Executive Family Course.
  • Disc Golf at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Bring the family and play a round of disc golf at the new course on the north side of Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, recently opened in partnership with Reno Disc Golf Association.
  • Visit the Wilbur D. May Center at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Take a stroll through the beautiful May Arboretum and Botanical Garden and learn how plants have survived for centuries in the heat, cold, wind and dryness of this region where the Great Basin meets the Sierra. Then meet the man behind the Double Diamond Ranch with a visit to the Wilbur D. May Museum.
  • Davis Creek Regional Park - Davis Creek Regional Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities and there is no day use fee. There is a campground with 62 overnight sites, hiking and nature trails, biking and equestrian access, shady picnic areas, group camping and day use areas that can be reserved, a small fishing lake, and great views of Washoe Lake and Slide Mountain.
  • Volunteer or Adopt-a-Park - Help keep these public treasures open and available to future generations by participating in the County's volunteer or Adopt-a-Park program. For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact Stephanie D'Arcy at (775) 823-6514.
