The Spire of Fire is probably the most spectacular art installation at this year's Artown festival in Reno. You can see it in action on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings through July, on Reno's Riverwalk at the corner of Sierra St. and the Truckee River. This is a free event. Start time for the flaming show varys between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., so check the Artown calendar for specifics.

The Spire of Fire was at Burning Man 2010 and is well worth checking out. You won't have any trouble finding the location - it's 48 feet tall. Controlled Burn fire dancers will entertain on Tuesdays and hula hoopers from Velocity movement and BoHo Hoops present hoop jams on Wednesday evenings. Everyone is invited to participate - bring your own hoop or borrow one from the hooper troopers. Check out my Spire of Fire video to see what you are missing if you don't make it in person.

There are hundreds more events, exhibits, and activities to see and participate in. Artown is one of the biggest and best art festivals in the United States, and it's right here in Reno.

Give $3, Keep Artown Free. With over 60% of its events free, Artown has a campaign to solicit a few extra bucks. The goal is to increase individual contributions so Artown can continue to present the high-caliber free programming we have come to expect. Check my Artown article for details on how you can participate.
