If you've ever been hassled #about drinking on the street at a downtown Reno event, you'll be pleased to hear about the new rules that recently went into effect.

Before, you could only enjoy a beer or other adult beverage in designated "beer garden" areas within event venues like Hot August Nights. If you decided to walk around checking out the cars, with beer in hand, you were actually breaking Reno's law against open containers in public and were quite likely to run afoul of a patrolling cop. Now, as long as you are at an event, that will no longer be the case. Thanks to an expanded definition of "beer garden" worked out between the city, the cops, and the downtown casinos, you can take your beer along while cruising around our many downtown Reno events. Well, I’m pretty sure drinking and driving is still illegal, even in Reno. Should my use of the term “cruising” have been misunderstood, in this case it means walking around, on foot, not in a car. Sorry for the confusion.
