Here's why you aren't going hiking in the Sierra high country for a while yet. This picture was taken on Saturday, June 18, 2011. However, it's nice down here around Reno, so check out the hiking trails in the Truckee Meadows.

Caples Lake is west of Carson Pass and south of Lake Tahoe. It is just shy of 8000'. It's still winter up there, but the good news is there will be plenty of water and full reservoirs this year. We are used to conserving water over here in Nevada, but the Californians have a tough time with the concept. Needless to say, they are ecstatic at the prospect of abundant water this summer. Even Lake Mead by Las Vegas is going to add several feet, reversing a drought-driven trend that has drawn down the lake's level for several years running.

When we visit Sacramento we see the mountains still completely covered with snow in June. Heard flood warnings for Tahoe this weekend as temperatures climbed into triple digits. Is going to be an interesting summer for sure.

I haven’t seen any snow in the east for a long while now — thank goodness. Lovely shots.

Winter or not, it is still a beautiful image of nature. The only other thing I have to say is, “Hurray for water!”
