The big annual plant sale at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum is this Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. This popular event is sponsored by the Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society and is fun way for local gardeners to save money on plants that grow in our area. You'll also be supporting our excellent public garden, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011. There will be a wide variety of native and ornamental plants, vegetables, and trees that are adapted to the climatic challenges of the Truckee Meadows region. For a detailed list of plants that will be available, check out the online catalog of the sale. Admission is free.
Some of the plants were started by members of the Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society and others were donated by local nurseries. Society members will be on hand to help with plant selection. Proceeds from this year's sale will go toward improvements at the Santini and Lear Gardens, and at the Irwin Overlook. Only cash and local checks will be accepted. For more information, call (775) 785-4153. The May Arboretum is located in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno.
