Pain at the Pump

Anyone who buys gasoline or diesel fuel already knows the price per gallon has been climbing at about the same trajectory as a space shuttle launch. Maybe this fuel price spike will finally get us to implement some serious measures designed to end our dependence on imported petroleum, but I doubt it. It's not like we haven't had warnings and time to be working on something, but our past history of dealing with this sort of scenario isn't encouraging.

According to the AAA Daily Fuel Guage Report, the national average price for regular gas on 3/6/11 was $3.503. A year ago it was $2.736. Diesel is $3.863 vs. $2.891. In Nevada we currently average $3.603 for regular and $3.905 for diesel. Around the Truckee Meadows, the lowest prices are running $3.53 for regular gas and $3.79 for diesel. There are plenty of places charging significantly more, so it can be worth your while to shop around.
