According to the National Weather Service, some seriously cold weather will descend on the Truckee Meadows starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend. High winds and significant snow are also headed our way as part of a winter storm coming down from Canada. High temperatures will struggle to reach the freezing mark and lows are predicted to sink to single digits by Saturday night. The sun should reappear by Sunday. If you are going to be out and about, be sure to check highway conditions and the latest weather forecast before venturing forth.

All of this new snow, combined with the dump we had last week, is creating legendary snow country conditions for the snow sports crowd. Downhill and cross-country ski areas will be booming once the snow lets up, and snow play areas will be in prime shape. If you have ever considered taking downhill/boarding or cross country ski lessons, now is the time to go for it.
