Amber Alerts on Facebook

Facebook recently joined the volunteer network of organizations posting and publicizing Amber Alerts in child abduction cases. There are now 53 Amber Alert pages on Facebook (D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and one for each state) and Reno Facebook members can "Like" the one for Nevada and any others they might want to track. Once you "Like" the page(s), you'll receive Amber alerts in the news feed and will be able to share with friends.

The Amber Alert system was created in 2003 as a result of the abduction and murder of 9 year old Amber Hagerman. The system speeds the spread of information about missing children who may be in imminent danger. Amber Alerts are broadcast over the Emergency Alert System and are also spread by business organizations such as wireless providers, trucking companies, and now Facebook.
