National Winter Trails Day, on Saturday, January 8, is a great opportunity to learn more about safe and fun family recreation in our nearby snowy mountains. Locally, the day's events are being headed up by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) with numerous free and family-friendly activities from which to choose.

The closest place to enjoy the day is Tahoe Meadows, on the Mt. Rose Highway between Incline Village and the Mt. Rose ski area. Starting at 10 a.m., TRTA will be hosting snow oriented activities which will include guided snowshoe walks, winter safety information, product demos, snowman building contest, hot chocolate and treats from Starbucks and Whole Foods. A bit further from Reno, cross country ski areas at Kirkwood and Tahoe City will also be holding free events. Get more information from my National Winter Trails Day article.
