Brian Sandoval Becomes Nevada's 29th Governor

On Monday, January 3, in a ceremony starting at 11:30 a.m. on the Capitol steps in Carson City, Brian Sandoval will be sworn in as the 29th Governor of Nevada. He will be joined by Nevada's other constitutional officers, all of whom were returned to office in the 2010 general election. The swearing in ceremony is just part of two days of festivities revolving around Sandoval's inauguration. All events are free and open to the public.

Here's what to do and see on Sunday, January 2...

  • Inaugural Arts And Culture Stroll from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. - various locations around Carson City.
  • Inaugural Performing Arts Showcase from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King Street in Carson City. It's free, but seats are limited. Reserve free tickets online or call (775) 883-1976 for more information.
  • Those planning to attend these events can download an event flyer and map.

On Monday, January 3, the Capitol grounds open at 10:30 a.m. and the swearing in ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. From 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., Governor & Mrs. Sandoval will host a reception in the Nevada State Library and Archives Building Lobby, 100 North Stewart Street in Carson City.

Later in January, two formal inaugural balls will be held. The Southern Nevada Inaugural Ball & Dinner will be Friday, January 28 at Wynn Las Vegas. The Northern Nevada Inaugural Ball & Dinner will be Saturday, January 29 at the Silver Legacy Reno / Reno Ballroom. These are black tie affairs requiring formal attire and tickets.
