Ho, Ho, Ho! 'Tis naughty to throw your Christmas tree in the trash or dump it in the desert after the holidays. For proper disposal, take natural trees to be recycled through the annual Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Christmas Tree Recycling program. From December 26, 2010 through January 17, 2011, there will be three places around the area to drop off clean (not flocked), decoration-free trees.

Drop-off hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A $3 donation is requested to support this and other community efforts. Recycling trees helps conserve landfill space, reduces illegal dumping, and provides mulch for area parks. Last year, over 10,500 trees were recycled. This program is for residents only. Commercial businesses with large quantities should contact RT Donovan at (775) 425-3015.

KTMB is seeking volunteers to help out at the recycling locations. Shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to sign up, call (775) 851-5185 or email staff@ktmb.org.
