It's going to be a cold and wet weekend in the Reno / Tahoe region. The National Weather Services is forecasting significant rain and snow for the Sierra and Truckee Meadows, along with flooding danger. If you live near a stream, be sure to watch the water level as this storm passes through from Saturday into next week. Meanwhile, here are some events and activities to enjoy inside over the next few days.

Wolf Pack Basketball - Friday, December 17. The UNR Wolf Pack basketball teams takes on Arizona State at Lawlor Events Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. The Pack isn't having a good season, but they beat San Francisco State in their last game on Dec. 11. The next home game is Monday, December 20 vs. Portland State at 7:30 p.m.

Bruka Theatre presents Buttcracker III: The Resurrection - Saturday, November 20. Reno's downtown Bruka Theatre is presenting this holiday spoof on The Nutcracker. Buttcracker performances at 8 p.m. will be on December 15, 16, 17, 18. The show is recommended for ages 12 and up. For more information, call (775) 323-3221.

Handel's Messiah Performed by the TOCCATA Orchestra, Chorus, and Soloists - Wednesday, December 15, 7 p.m. - Trinity Episcopal Church, Reno. Friday, December 17, 7:30 p.m. - St. Theresa Church, South Lake Tahoe. Saturday, December 18, 2 p.m. - St. Francis Church, Incline Village. Sunday, December 19, 3 p.m. - The Resort at Squaw Creek. Tickets for all performances are $20 adults, $15 seniors (62 and up), and $5 for students 25 and under with valid ID. For more information, call (775) 313-9697.

Nevada Opera presents "Amahl and the Night Visitors" - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, December 17, 18, 19. Nevada Opera presents the heartwarming tale of the crippled shepherd boy, his mother, a late night visit by three wise men and the miracle that changes their lives forever. Performances are at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno. December 17 at 7:30 p.m., December 18 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and December 19 at 2 p.m. Call the Pioneer Center box office at (775) 686-6600.

Reno Jazz Orchestra Christmas Concert - Saturday, December 18. The Reno Jazz Orchestra, in collaboration with the Sierra Nevada Ballet and the Reno Jazz Youth Orchestra, present a holiday concert featuring Duke Ellington's adaptation of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. Dancers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet will also perform. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Nightingale Concert Hall, Church Fine Arts Building on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Reno Pops with Choirs of Angels - Friday, December 17. Come join the Reno Pops for a warm and cheery evening of your favorite holiday music. In addition to the Pops' traditional holiday sing-along and other audience favorites, we are combining forces with a multi-chorus 60-voice choir, the renowned "Tintabulations" Bell Choir, and local vocal soloists. The concert will be at Manogue High School at 7 p.m. Come early for the best seats. Admission is free, although donations are always cheerfully accepted.
