The theme for the 2010 Sparks Hometowne Christmas is Characters of Christmas Past. To start the event, Sparks tree lighting ceremony will be on Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Saint Mary's Amphitheater on Victorian Avenue. Prior to the tree lighting, a special ribbon cutting will be held at 6 p.m. to celebrate the grand reopening of the train display located east of Saint Mary's Amphitheater on Victorian Avenue. After the ceremony, Sparks Heritage Museum volunteers will give free tours of the train.

On Saturday, Grand Marshal for the parade at 1 p.m. will be Ian Petrella, the actor who played Ralphie's younger brother Randy in the popular film "A Christmas Story." Santa will greet and visit with children in the Glendale Schoolhouse from noon to 2:00 p.m. and after the parade from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Parade seating for people with disabilities will be available on the northeast corner of 10th & Victorian Avenue.
