Entry forms are due by December 8. Gingerbread houses must be delivered to the Wilbur D. May Museum between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 11. Judging will take place from noon to 1 p.m. as part of the museum's holiday celebration. Commercial bakers have been invited to donate gingerbread houses that will be raffled off as part of the day's festivities, which also includes an enchanted forest, holiday craft making, carols, and a visit by one of Santa's elves.
Gingerbread Houses must reflect a holiday theme, be made of edible materials (except for the foundation), and made by the entrant. "Royal Icing" must be used for construction. Recipes are available at the Arboretum Office. Also check out Gingerbread House Recipe Instructions from About.com. Store bought kits are allowed.
There is a $5 fee per entry. Proceeds support the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each of four categories: overall appearance, originality, creativity and craftsmanship. Entry forms and contest details are available online or from one of the locations listed below. For more information, call (775) 823-6500.
