Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, closest ski resort to Reno, Nevada

If you aren't convinced winter is here after the last few nice days we've had, you'll change your opinion this weekend. According to local weather guy Mike Alger, the first really significant winter storm will be bringing snow and chilly temperatures to the Truckee Meadows starting Friday night. Saturday and Sunday could be challenging for travel, especially if you are going up into the Sierra. Be sure to check the weather forecast and road conditions before heading out.

Mt. Rose Ski Area Opening Day - Friday, November 19. Mt. Rose, the closest ski area to Reno, will be opening with the Ponderosa Lift at the Main Lodge area running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They've got natural snow and have been busy making more. Heavenly is also scheduled to open on the 19th. Squaw Valley and Northstar will fire up the lifts on the 20th. Boreal and Mammoth Mountain are already running.

Reno Bighorns Basketball - Saturday & Sunday, November 20 - 21. The Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League (D-League) will start their season of home games on November 20 and 21 with a series against the Utah Flash. The Saturday game tips off at 7 p.m. and the Sunday contest starts at 3 p.m. Two more home games on Thanksgiving weekend, November 26 and 27, will be vs. the Bakersfield Jam.

Trembling Leaves Native American Culture Day - Saturday, November 20. Listen to the traditional drum songs, see traditional crafts such as basket weaving and weapon making, hear traditional stories told in Native tongue, take part in traditional dances and witness the wonder of northern Nevada's Native American culture during Trembling Leaves, a one-day interactive family exhibit from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to Trembling Leaves is $7 for children and seniors, $8 for adults. The event is at the Wilbur D. May Museum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St., Reno. For more information, call (775) 785-5961.

Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, November 20. The Pack plays New Mexico State at home in Mackay Stadium. This is an afternoon game with kickoff at 1:05 p.m. Nevada is 9-1 on the season and ranked 18 in the nation by USA Today. The game against Boise State (9-0, ranked 3rd) on Friday, November 26, is sold out.

Lights Up at The Summit Mall - Saturday, November 20. The Summit Mall starts the holiday season with a big fireworks show, live entertainment, and Santa arrival at 6:30. The party will be in The Summit Plaza next to Vans and Tilly's. Call (775) 853-7800 for more information. The Summit is off 395 at exit 57B in south Reno, S. Virginia Street and the Mt. Rose Highway.

Christmas Tree Lighting at The Legends - Saturday, November 20. Come join us while we light our 60ft. Christmas Tree. Entertainment will include a live performance by The Coats. The tree lighting party starts at 6 p.m.
