You've seen those pretty hanging flower baskets that grace downtown Reno during the summer months. Along with other nice, but not necessary things, the budget axe chopped these decorations right off their hangers and they won't be there in 2011 to cheer up people strolling, jogging, and biking along the Truckee River.

However, Reno residents have risen to the cause with donations and at least some of the hanging flower baskets that beautify downtown Reno will return come spring. According to the City of Reno Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, just about enough has been collected to fund the first 75 baskets. It costs about $180 per basket to build and maintain them through the season. Residents wishing to help can do so with a donation of as little as $25.

Donations are being accepted through December 15. The deadline is necessary so that the flowers can be grown and ready to hang by May, 2011. For more information, call (775) 334-2260.
