The fall color season has started. Aspen groves on the Sierra slopes rising to the west of Reno are revealing themselves as streaks of gold. Trees around town are changing to shades of yellow and orange and red. Autumn is really arriving and it's time to plan on getting out and enjoying the fall color show across the Truckee Meadows and up in the Sierra Nevada around Lake Tahoe. Some of the most stunning displays I've ever seen will be taking place right here in the Reno / Tahoe region.

You don't have to go anywhere to experience the spectacle of the changing season. People have planted a rainbow variety of deciduous trees and shrubs throughout the Truckee Meadows. To see color on trees and shrubs from around the world, visit the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Idlewild Park and the Truckee River pathway through Reno and Sparks also provide excellent fall color viewing.

Fall around Lake Tahoe is unsurpassed. The combination of golden aspens and Lake Tahoe Basin scenery just can't be beat. A short drive to the south of the lake is Hope Valley, a world famous spot for capturing photos of the autumn show. For those with more time and ambition, a drive south along the eastern Sierra will take you to numerous fall color hotspots all the way down to Bishop.
