Incumbent U.S. Senator Harry Reid and GOP challenger Sharron Angle will engage in their one and only debate on Thursday, October 14 at 6 p.m. The debate had originally been scheduled for October 21, but the Angle camp backed out, saying they didn't want to engage Reid after early voting had started in Nevada on October 16. Reid wasn't particularly interested in the 21st either, citing the need to possibly be in Washington on Senate business.

The debate will be in Las Vegas and broadcast statewide on TV and radio. Mitch Fox of Las Vegas PBS will moderate and the event host is the Nevada Broadcasters Association. It will be the standard format you've seen before - one candidate answers a question, the other offers a rebuttal, then they switch for the next question.
I began this poll just after Angle emerged from the June primary to be Reid's opponent in the general election. At that point, Angle polled 50% to 39% ahead of Reid. A Rasmussen Reports poll conducted on October 5, 2010 shows Angle at 50%, Reid at 46%, 2% preferring another candidate, and 2% undecided. Whether or not the debate really makes a difference won't be known for sure until all the ballots are counted on November 2.
