The Virginia & Truckee Railroad (V & T) is extending its 2010 season and Saturday rides through Dec. 18. The line between Carson City and Virginia City is called the "Sisters in History Route" and was originally scheduled to operate through Nevada Day (Oct. 31). Due to popular demand, the trains will run an additional six weeks through December 18. At present, the route of the restored V & T actually goes from Gold Hill (just shy of Virginia City) to Mound House (just east of Carson City). When the entire restoration is completed (estimated to be in 2012), the route from Virginia City all the way to Carson City will be about 21 miles.

The new "Colors in the Canyon" roundtrip excursion begins on September 18. The ride starts and ends at the Eastgate Depot, off Hwy. 50 east in Carson City. The fare is $15 and includes narration during the 45 minute ride out to the Carson River Canyon and back. This fall trip will run every Saturday at 5 p.m. through October 23.

Tickets are available online for either round trip or one-way excursions. Prices vary for the numerous available options, such as diesel or steam, one-way or roundtrip.
