The Reno / Tahoe region will be hosting a number of running, walking, and biking races starting this weekend and continuing into October. There is something for everyone, from serious competitions to fun runs and walks for a casual day enjoying the outdoors. These are benefits for charitable causes, so you can have a good time, get some exercise, and be supporting an organization that is doing good things for those in need.

September:

  • 11 - Walk in Memory, Walk in Hope benefits the Crisis Call Center and National Suicide Prevention Week, at Idlewild Park in Reno.
  • 12 - Fight for Air Run benefits the American Lung Association, at Damonte Ranch High School.
  • 12 - Tour de Tahoe-Bike Big Blue benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, at South Lake Tahoe.
  • 18 - Buddy Walk 2010 benefits the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada, at Sparks Marina Park.
  • 18 - Fat Boy Bicycle Poker Run benefits the Washoe County School District and the Reno Bike Project, at O'Skis on Victorian Ave. in Sparks.
  • 19 - Journal Jog benefits the RGJ Foundation, at Reno High School.
  • 25 - Battle of the Rattle benefits the Northern Nevada Diabetes Association, at Gold's Gym in south Reno. This event is dog-friendly.

October

  • 3 - Sparks Half-Marathon benefits the American Heart Association, at Sparks Marina Park.
  • 3 - Race for the Cure 5K benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Northern Nevada, at the Boomtown Casino & Hotel in Verdi.
  • 10 - The Power of Ten - Walk to Cure Diabetes benefits the Northern Nevada Branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
  • 17 - Run for Education benefits the Education Alliance of Washoe County, at Damonte Ranch High School.
