According to the August, 2010 issue of Outside magazine, Reno is the top destination in the country for whitewater. The main reasons are obvious - the Truckee River Whitewater Park right in the middle of town and the Reno River Festival. The article also cited the whitewater playground at Rock Park in Sparks and other nearby rapids.

A good part of the rest of the Reno scene went into Outside's choice. We've got branches of big high tech and outdoor industry companies, a new baseball stadium, the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, and the nationally-recognized Nevada Museum of Art. An interesting mix of eateries and shops have sprouted downtown in the last few years, with a concurrent retreat of really sleazy joints and gambling halls. Some of that is still around, but hey, this is Reno - it just wouldn't have the right flavor without a few of them. The job situation is not so good right now, but if you've got one and some money, housing is around 50 percent cheaper than it was in 2006.
