The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees around 67 percent of the land in Nevada. As such, this agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior is a never-ending source of both praise and condemnation from every angle. Its policies have helped provide funds for preservation work at Lake Tahoe, which everyone likes. BLM is also the agency responsible for managing wild horses, which is a constant source of public controversy and friction.

To help disseminate information and promote public involvement, the Bureau of Land Management has jumped into the social media realm by establishing a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube. "We are excited about using social media to connect with people interested in the management of their public lands," said BLM Director Bob Abbey. "Through such media, the BLM will not only be able to reach more citizens in 'real time,' but also generate instant feedback on the myriad issues facing our agency."

In addition to accounts set up for the national BLM in Washington, D.C., various state offices have their own accounts. There are also subject-specific sites such as the Facebook page for the Wild Horse and Burro Program. For a list and links, refer to the BLM Social Media webpage.
