Polls Show Reid Ahead of Angle

Sharron Angle got a bounce in the polls following her come-from-behind win in June's Republican primary. The conservative candidate came out of a tough campaign ahead of incumbent U.S. Senator Harry Reid. Back then, Angle polled ahead of Reid 44% to 41%, but the most recent poll I've seen, done in mid-July by Mason-Dixon for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, reveals a shift in Reid's favor - 44% to 37%. Though these numbers look good for Reid, his opponent can take some comfort in the rest of the poll's results - 10% undecided and 5% choosing "none of these candidates." There are also voters who will cast ballots for some of the six other candidates on the ballot, further blurring predictions about the final election results in November. Various other aspects of the poll results can be read in an article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

A particularly sizeable advantage Reid is enjoying thusfar is in funding. His campaign has fielded a non-stop series of ads highlighting Angle's positions on a variety of issues, ranging from Social Security to Yucca Mountain. Even though Reid is at the top of the GOP list of Democrats to defeat in November, it remains to be seen whether or not Angle can garner the financial support needed to mount an effective counterattack.

I posted my own informal poll in this space last month. Since that time, Reid has maintained a steady and decisive lead among those who have voted (my poll is totally non-scientific, with people who choose to vote self-selecting). The poll is still active for you to check out and cast a vote if you wish. Stay tuned for more campaign news as we head for the November showdown.
