After searching the country for a replacement for departed city manager Charles McNeely (left in spring, 2009), the Reno City Council decided to go with what we already had. Interim city manager Donna Dreska has been officially hired by a majority vote of the Reno City Council to be the permanent city manager. She is getting a contract good to August, 2011, with a yearly salary of $195,874.

The council vote was 5-2 in favor of keeping Dreska. The two dissenters, Dwight Dorch and Dan Gustin, wanted to hire one of the three other candidates, citing Dreska's past statements about not wanting to be in the position long-term. Council supporters had their way, however, praising her handling of difficult financial and personnel matters over the past year. Personally, I'm happy to see Dreska retained. She has already performed well under difficult circumstances and knows Reno's trials and tribulations better than any outsider. I also think it's a good thing to hire local talent when a well-qualified person is already here.

Donna Dreska……..seems like a sensible choice.
I don’t know her from Adam. I’m a tax paying citizen as well as thousands of others in Reno. 195,000. a year
isn’t chump change. Can we afford to pay anyone that
kind of money at a time like this? What will be the amount of her pension after her term?
