Artown Events This Weekend

Artown is in its second to last week for 2010 and there is no end in sight of entertaining fun. Here are just a few of the activities and shows you can get out and enjoy over the upcoming weekend. Learn about lots more from the Artown online calendar. Numerous other events will be happening up to Artown's free grand finale at Wingfield Park on July 31.

World Music Series: Parno Graszt - Wednesday, July 21, 7:30 p.m. Hungary's #1 gypsy folk band is presenting a free night of traditional gypsy music and dancing at Wingfield Park.

Dancing in the Park: "Oh The Places You Will Go" - Thursday, July 22, 8 p.m. InnerRhythmsDance Theatre presents an evening of dance and music based on the story by Dr. Seuss. Wingfield Park amphitheater. Free.

Reno's Artown is the whole month of July.

Rollin' on the River Music Series - Friday, July 23, 5:30 p.m. This week Brad Wilson will be rockin' the blues. Free.

"Vortex": The Rock Ballet - Friday & Saturday, July 23-24, 8:30 p.m. AVA Ballet Theatre presents this rock ballet at the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater. PG-13. $10 - $40.

Movies in the Park: Robin and the 7 Hoods - Friday, July 23, 9 p.m. Bring low-back chairs or blankets to enjoy a free flick in Wingfield Park by the Truckee River.

44th Annual Basque Festival - Saturday, July 24, 10 a.m. Family fun with Basque food, dancing, sports, and contests at Wingfield Park. Free.

Compression! A Celebration of Fire and Performance Art - Saturday, July 24, 3 p.m. Fire and non-fire dancing, propane cannons, art, and an alternative vendor village. City Plaza, corner 1st & Virginia Streets. Free.

Bike Tour through Old Reno - Sunday, July 25, 9 a.m. Ride through historic parts of Reno. Call (775) 747-4478 for reservations and information. $10.

Gospel Fest 2010 - Sunday, July 25, 12 p.m. The Fest in Wingfield Park focuses on gospel music culture and history presented through dance, song, bands, food, games, and more. Free.
