With hot summer weather, Truckee River water play is an attractive sport for thousands of Reno residents. The Truckee is, however, a natural river, not a swimming pool. To help make cooling off in the river a safer proposition, the Stay Afloat Safety Fair is putting on free clinics for kids ages 8 to 13 at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. The Fair will be on Sunday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and participation is free.
Clinic workshops are 50 minutes and will cover topics such as proper fitting of PFDs (personal floatation devices) and helmets, how to safely maneuver in moving water, and how to deal with dangerous situations in the water. The Fair is sponsored by the Truckee River Foundation and a variety of community organizations and businesses. The information phone number is (775) 329-1540.
