Sparks Branding Effort Moving Along

Since I reported on the branding effort being implemented by the City of Sparks in a post last year, a few of the recommended steps have actually taken place. The Sparks tourism tag line is now officially "It's Happening Here" and the logo has been transformed into a snappy rendition of the city's name. The idea here is to attract visitors and new events while giving the city an upbeat and attractive image designed to interest new business. I hope it all works as hoped.

Sparks is taking action to make things happen, promoting big annual events and bringing some new ones to town. Some of these include Sparks Hometowne Farmer's Market, Star Spangled Sparks, Hot August Nights, and Sparks Hometowne Christmas. There are also recent new events like the Wild West Roadeo, Young Shakespeare at The Legends, and the Hug Your Kids Balloon Release. See the It's Happening Here Events Calendar for all the details.

The idea of changing the city's nickname to "Nevada's Festival City" seems to have died for lack of interest. It's still "The Rail City" in recognition of how Sparks got its start as a railroad town. I think that's as it should be. Turning Sparks Marina and Victorian Square into Celebration Lake and Festival Place respectively aren't likely to happen, either.
