May is Older Americans Month. In celebration, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is holding its second annual Senior Adventures Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 25, at Centennial Plaza in Sparks. The free event is being sponsored by RTC, the City of Reno, and Washoe County. Its purpose is to increase the mobility and independence of area senior citizens. Nearly 2.5 million rides are taken by seniors and people with disabilities each year on the RTC public transit system.

People attending will be offered tours of the transit center and shown accessibility and safety features of the RTC RIDE buses. Community information will be available from various agencies, including the Truckee Meadows Community College Silver College, Washoe County Senior Law Project, Nevada Diabetes Association, AARP Foundation Work Search, and the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living. Other free activities include a wheelchair workshop, giveaways, and a raffle. Free reduced fare ID cards for RTC transit services will also be issued at the fair. To receive a reduced fare ID, seniors need to complete the application and bring it with proof of age to the Senior Adventures Fair.

Call (775) 335-1903 for more information. RTC Centennial Plaza is at 15th Street and Victorian Avenue in Sparks and does not have public parking on site. There is no parking at the transit center - those arriving by car should use the nearby Victorian Square public parking lots.
