It's looking ever more likely that first-term Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons will be a one-hit wonder. According to a recent poll published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, his popularity continues to erode compared to that of Brian Sandoval, his chief rival for the Republican nomination in the June 8 primary election. These latest numbers show Gibbons 18 percentage points behind Sandoval. A February poll showed Sandoval up by only 7 points. Whoever wins the Republican nomination will more than likely face Democrat Rory Reid in the November general election.

Early voting in Washoe County begins on May 22 and ends on June 4. Numerous early voting polling places will be available throughout the area. Since constitutional rights are driving much of the political dialogue these days, I urge everyone to get out and exercise this most important one.
