Those of us who were around in the early 2000s will undoubtedly remember the traffic troubles caused by construction in the Spaghetti Bowl (our local term for the U.S. 395 - I80 interchange). The orange cones were there literally for years and it seemed like the job would never end. Well, it did end and I think the resulting improvements were worth it, though I'm sure there are those who disagree.

Nothing was done just south of that intersection, however, and the congestion has become a major impediment to traffic flowing through Reno. To fix this situation, the Northbound U.S. 395 Improvement Project was recently launched by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). The project involves just over three miles of the highway south of the Spaghetti Bowl and is scheduled to last about 18 months. Motorists passing through the construction zone will experience possible delays, narrow lanes, and reduced speed limits. The good news is the limited scope and duration of the project, which will hopefully proceed in a timely manner and result in less traffic stress for those who must travel this stretch of roadway.
