Thank you to all Washoe County Library worker bees for hanging in there and continuing to provide the high level of service residents want and need. Keeping our libraries functioning at all in this era of budget constraints is commendable - maintaining the system so it still performs a vital function in the community is exemplary. I add the library Board of Trustees as also deserving a thank you, for working out ways to avoid closing any of the 11 branches.

To help adjust to the new reality of less staff and a dwindling budget, there will be reduced hours and perhaps more closed days starting on July 1 with the beginning of the 2010-2011 fiscal year. You, the library patron, can have a say in how library hours and days are adjusted by filling out the short survey being conducted until May 2. It is available at the Downtown Reno, North Valleys, Northwest Reno, Sierra View, South Valleys, Spanish Springs, and Sparks libraries. You can also complete the survey online. Staff recommendations based on survey results will be presented to the Board of Trustees at their May 19 meeting at South Valleys Library. When I get wind of what changes are coming, I'll report it in this space.
