Health Care Legislation Not Popular in Nevada

Maybe Governor Jim Gibbons has something going there with his vocal opposition to the recently passed federal health care legislation. According to a recent poll conducted by Mason Dixon Polling & Research for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, 39 percent of Nevadans like the bill and 52 percent don't. Meanwhile, after Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto refused to file suit on behalf of the state, Gibbons is moving ahead with his executive order pursuing a lawsuit against the federal government to block implementation of the health care law. Mark Hutchison, a Las Vegas attorney, has been retained as a special counsel to handle the suit. He will work for free, but Gibbons has established a fund to accept donations for the estimated $3,500 in related legal costs.

My own poll on the health care bill, posted a few days ago, has come up with similar results despite being anything but scientific. Of those who submitted their opinions, 63 percent are in favor of suing and 36 percent are opposed. Voting is still open, so feel free to chime in on your side.

Of course, this will undoubtedly be a factor in the 2010 elections. It's looking like those who supported passage of health care legislation may reap the discontent of voters who don't think much of the bill. It's going to be an interesting campaign season.
