Weather wise, the forecasts calls for a warming trend continuing into the weekend. It will be a wonderful change from the nagging cold and winter-like weather that has passed for spring so far. Counting on pleasant days to be outside, here are some choices for this weekend.

Reno Aces Baseball - Thursday, April 15. The Reno Aces wrap up their season opening home stand against the Salt Lake City Bees, 6:05 p.m. at Aces Ballpark. Be sure to check out the new Freight House District. The next home game won't be until April 24. You can buy tickets online, at the Aces Ballpark box office, or by calling (775) 334-4700.

Kids Discovery Day at Galena Creek Park - Saturday, April 17. The theme is Bugs, Snakes and Worms, all of which tend to grab the interest of kids. This hands-on program is presented by the Great Basin Institute and the Washoe County Department of Regional Parks and Open Space. It's from 10 a.m. to 1?30 p.m. at Galena Creek Regional Park, 18350 Mt. Rose Highway. Enter the park through the north entrance and meet near the restrooms. Please RSVP by (775) 674-5475 ext. 4. Following the morning program, there will be an optional bring-your-own-lunch kid friendly hike.

South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival - Saturday, April 17. Celebrate Mother Earth at the South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College, 1 College Drive, S. Lake Tahoe, CA. Bring the family to learn about alternative energy, water conservation, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint. Enjoy live music all day and check out educational booths, conservation activities, and Washoe culture. Admission is free.

Closing Weekend at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe - Sunday, April 18. Even though if doesn't want to stop snowing, Mt. Rose will be closing for the season this weekend. On Saturday the 17th, enjoy a special BOATercross extreme kayaking race in the Slide Bowl starting at high noon. For this last weekend fling, buy online and get these deals - adult lift tickets at $29, seniors and teens at $19, and super senior/child tickets $7. 2010-2011 season passes go on sale April 19. "Animal Grossology" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - Last day is Sunday, April 18. If it's really gross, kids usually love it, so this new interactive family exhibit is sure to be a hit. This fun way to learn natural science will feature some pretty yucky stuff and teach why gross can actually be good. The Wilbur D. May Museum is in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno. For this final week, Grossology hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 adults, $7 children under 18 and seniors 62 and over.
