Round one will be the primary election on June 8. This contest will be our first chance to sort out who and what we will support in the fall general election on November 2. Perhaps the biggest story here is the re-election bid by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He has been made into the poster child for everything Republicans don't like (such as health care legislation) and thus a major target for defeat. The primary will settle who, out of over 20 candidates, gets to oppose Reid in November. One Republican should emerge from the fray as a serious contender, with a variety of others from numerous small parties also on the ballot.
Incumbent Republican Governor Jim Gibbons might not survive the primary against Brian Sandoval, a popular and well-funded opponent. Gibbons has enjoyed incredibly low approval ratings for quite some time. It seems that folks just aren't very happy with the way he conducts Nevada's government business. The winner here will more than likely face Democrat Rory Reid, the son of U.S. Senator Harry Reid.
Stay tuned for more as the political temperature rises, and you know it will.
