Reno Aces Baseball - Thursday, April 8. The Reno Aces kick off their 2010 season with a game against the Fresno Grizzlies. This home stand with continue through April 14, with four games against the Grizzlies and four with the Salt Lake City Bees. The new Freight House District will also be open for fans to check out. Guided Naturalist Hike at Galena Creek Park - Friday, April 9. Meet at the Galena Creek trailhead and join a naturalist on this guided hike exploring the natural and cultural history of the area. The hike is from 12 noon to 2 p.m. This is an easy hike recommended for ages 13 and up. The suggested donation is $2 per person or $5 for a family. A Survey of Gee's Bend Quilts - Through Sunday, April 11. The Nevada Museum of Art brings us Gee's Bend Quilts, a remarkable exhibit of American folk art. You can enjoy these works this weekend, along with other temporary and permanent exhibits. Also showing through April 11 are Monsters and Maidens: Amphora Pottery of the Art Nouveau Era and The Beffi Triptych: Preserving Abruzzo's Cultural Heritage. Free Workshop at the Wilbur May Arboretum - Saturday, April 10. Phil Brazier, May Arboretum horticulture assistant, will present this program on how to turn-on and tune-up your sprinkler system. Learn how to solve problems, make repairs, and ensure your sprinklers will be working efficiently. Refreshments are sponsored by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority and Washoe County Department of Water Resources. Wild West Roadeo 2010 - Sunday, April 11. Think barrel racing for 40-foot buses and you get the idea. Drivers will race through an obstacle course that requires them to navigate 38,000 pound vehicles between tennis balls aligned for parking, orange barrels for precision in narrow spaces, and other maneuvers. Winners will advance to a national event that promotes driver skill and safety. There will also be a children's bike rodeo with a raffle including two free bicycles. The day also includes a wheelchair users roadeo coordinated by the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living, with Reno Aces tickets as the prize. Spring Skiing - Spring skiing got a big snow boost last weekend and all of the resorts are still going strong. You outdoors types can buzz up to Lake Tahoe and engage in a variety of winter sports activities. There are some killer deals on end-of-season lift tickets right now.
"Animal Grossology" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - Ongoing though April 18. If it's really gross, kids usually love it, so this new interactive family exhibit is sure to be a hit. This fun way to learn natural science will feature some pretty yucky stuff and teach why gross can actually be good. The Wilbur D. May Museum is in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno. Grossology hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 adults, $7 children under 18 and seniors 62 and over. Call (775) 785-5961 for details.
