Free Dump Days This Weekend

This is the weekend to freely dispose of those big and bulky items you've been accumulating and have been balking at paying for legal dumping. Waste Management will take the big trash listed below free of charge at its two transfer stations. Other household refuse will be accepted at more than 50 percent off the regular disposal price. Note that hazardous and electronic waste will not be accepted and that tires are limited to four per household.

Please, take advantage of this offer. Dumping in the desert is a real problem around here. It's not only illegal, it's expensive if you get caught, environmentally hazardous, and a blight perpetrated on everyone. Here are the legal places...

Locations:

Reno Transfer Station
1390 E. Commercial Row
Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Stead Transfer Station
13890 Mount Anderson Road
Saturday & Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Big items you can dump for free:

  • Freon-free Refrigerators
  • Hot Water Heaters
  • Stoves
  • Washers/Dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Sofas
  • Chairs
  • Mattresses
  • Box Springs

In addition to the transfer station free dump days, the Lockwood Landfill, 2401 Canyon Way east of Sparks on I80, will be having free residential dumping times in April and May. These will be on April 15-17, April 29-30, and May 1. For more information, contact Waste Management at (775) 329-8822.
