Even though we are in the midst of a winter-like bit of weather, there are still plenty of fun things going on around the Reno area. Don't let a little snow and cold keep you cooped up in the cabin.

Easter Egg Hunts & Events - Saturday & Sunday, April 3 - 4. Bring the kids to an Easter egg hunt at one of many Reno / Tahoe locations. There will be a variety of both church-sponsored and non-denominational Easter egg hunts and events from which to choose. If you are looking for a special Easter brunch or dinner treat, check out the many offerings available at restaurants in our local casinos.

CANstruction at the Meadowood Mall - Friday & Saturday, April 2 - 3. CANstruction is a fun and unique fundraiser for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. During the event, 12 professional and student teams create large art structures out of canned and packaged food. When it's over, all the food is donated to the Food Bank. The public is invited to view the work on Friday and Saturday to vote for the People's Choice. The donation is $1 per vote and each vote gets a coupon to Qdoba.

Volunteer Spring Cleanup Day at the Wilbur May Arboretum - Saturday, April 3. This is a day full of hands-on experience in the garden. Rancho San Rafael Botanical Society and Arboretum volunteers will be joined by Master Gardeners and Arboretum staff to present mini-workshops on tree pruning and rose care in the morning. Hot dogs and other refreshments will be served following the cleanup. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To volunteer, call Stephanie D'Arcy at (775) 823-6514.

Reno Bighorns Basketball - Friday, Saturday & Sunday, April 2 - 4. The Bighorns play the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Friday night at 7 p.m. This game is in support of World Autism Awareness Day, with ticket proceeds going to the Autism Coalition of Nevada. Reno Bighorns home games are played in the Reno Events Center, corner of 4th and Center Streets in downtown Reno.

Saturday is Latino Night, featuring Aztec dancers, a Mariachi band, and specials on margaritas and tacos. The game is vs. the Albuquerque Thunderbirds and starts at 7 p.m.

Following a travel-related postponement of last Monday night's game, the Reno Bighorns and Tulsa 66ers will play at 4 p.m. Sunday. All bowl-seating tickets for this game will be just $5. Bowl tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, as the Bighorns look to pack the Reno Events Center for what could be the most crucial game in franchise history with a playoff berth on the line.

Spring Skiing - Spring skiing is getting into high gear and all of the resorts are still going strong. This latest snowfall should make for some pretty good conditions. You outdoors types can buzz up to Lake Tahoe and engage in a variety of winter sports activities and enjoy some killer deals on end-of-season lift tickets.

"Animal Grossology" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - Ongoing though April 18. If it's really gross, kids usually love it, so this new interactive family exhibit is sure to be a hit. This fun way to learn natural science will feature some pretty yucky stuff and teach why gross can actually be good. How about slug and snail slime, dung beetles, leeches, and flies? If these don't interest kids, nothing will. The Wilbur D. May Museum is in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno. Grossology hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 adults, $7 children under 18 and seniors 62 and over. Call (775) 785-5961 for details.
