The new Freight House District is going up next to Aces Stadium in downtown Reno. Construction began last fall, with opening tentatively scheduled to correspond with the start of the 2010 Reno Aces baseball season on April 8. According to SK Baseball Managing Partner Stuart Katzoff, "All this is coming together nicely," but everything may not be ready right on time because of construction delays over the cold and snowy winter. In any event, he foresees at least a "soft opening" when the season begins. About 150 workers are employed building the Freight House District and 100 new jobs will be created to run the businesses therein.

The Freight House District is the next phase in redeveloping the part of Reno where, among other things, the old Mizpah Hotel used to stand. The idea is to create a family-friendly entertainment destination that is open year round, not just during baseball season. Establishments the Freight House District will contain include a sports bar overlooking Aces Stadium, an industrial loft style restaurant and music venue, a beer garden, a classy Mexican restaurant named Los Arroyos, and an outdoor area for music and other acts.
