Tonight, March 27, Reno will mark Earth Hour by darkening the Reno Arch and city buildings from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Businesses and residents are asked to join in by turning off exterior and other non-essential lighting during the same hour. This symbolic gesture, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, is intended to raise awareness of global climate change and other environmental issues, and to encourage individuals, government, and business to reduce their carbon emissions and their impact on the environment.

Worldwide, we will be joined in this effort as darkness descends in major cities like Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and Tel Aviv. Landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower, and Great Pyramids will blink out for an hour as well.
