Snowshoeing in the Sierra near Mt. Rose.

You will need to provide your own snowshoes, poles, snacks and water. The hike begins at noon and will last approximately three hours. It is recommended for adults and families with children 9 and over. Both beginner and experienced snowshoers are welcome. Trails at Galena Creek wind through the forest and are shaded much of the way, meaning it will probably be chilly - be sure to dress warmly. Call the Great Basin Institute at (775) 674-5486 to make sure the hike is happening and to RSVP. In the event of bad weather, it may be canceled.
Galena Creek Regional Park is at 18350 Mt. Rose Highway (enter at the north entrance and meet near the restrooms). Parking is free and so is participation in the hike. Donations to the Great Basin Institute are gladly accepted.
