According to the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), this is a good time to build. Due to the economy, bids from contractors were nearly $8 million below the estimated project cost. The winning prime contractor is West Coast Contractors of Nevada, a company based right here in Reno. Together with a variety of sub-contractors, the 4th Street Station project is providing good-paying jobs and adding around $13 million to the local economy. Another big plus is that 95% of the funding is coming from the Federal Transit Administration and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
If you haven't given our RTC bus transit system a try, the new RTC RAPID route may be of interest. It runs along Reno's busiest corridor, Virginia Street, between downtown on the north and the Meadowood Mall on the south. RTC RAPID only makes limited stops, providing a much faster trip end-to-end. Check it out if you work or play somewhere along the route and are sick of traffic / parking hassles.Source: Regional Transportation Commission (RTC).
