The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games began on February 12 and will run through February 28. With our proximity to all those world-class ski resorts around Lake Tahoe, you'd think maybe Reno / Tahoe area winter athletes would be represented, and you'd be right - almost a dozen Olympians with various ties to the area are in Vancouver with Team USA. Several of them are Olympic veterans and at the top of their game, including Daron Rahlves (ski cross), Julia Mancuso (alpine), Nate Holland (snowboard cross), and Elena Hight (halfpipe snowboard).

As the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games progress, you can check the schedule and follow our Reno / Tahoe athletes on the official Winter Olympics website. The site lets you select your sport of interest, then click down to the schedules, results, and Olympian of interest.

Update: Squaw Valley's Nate Holland spun out in the snowboard cross finals, dashing his hopes for a medal. The U.S. did, however, win gold as Torino champion Seth Wescott successfully defended his title.
Mogul skier Shannon Bahrke of Tahoe City won the bronze medal in her sport at Vancouver. She shared the podium with teammate and gold medal winner Hannah Kearney.
Downhill racer Marco Sullivan of Squaw Valley crashed at the bottom of the course during his final medal run. Sullivan was uninjured and will be in the Super G race scheduled for Friday.
