President's Day is Monday, February 15. It's the holiday set aside to celebrate the birthdays of two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. As a holiday from daily life, though, it doesn't do much for most folks, unless you work for the government or the banks. Most of those offices and businesses will be closed on Monday. Most Reno recreation facilities will be shut down as well, with the main exceptions of Rink on the River, the Rosewood Lakes Golf Course, and the Northwest Pool. Here's the list...

  • Rink on the River - Open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (last day of the 2009-2010 season)
  • Rosewood Lakes Golf Course - Open Regular Hours
  • Northwest Pool - Open Regular Hours
  • Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center - Closed
  • Neil Road Recreation Center - Closed
  • Teglia's Paradise Park Activity Center - Closed
  • McKinley Arts & Culture Center - Closed
  • Southside Cultural Center - Closed
  • Sibayan R.E.C. - Closed
  • Evelyn Mount NECC Pool - Closed

Map & Compass Scavenger Hunt at Galena Creek Regional Park - Great Basin Institute is putting on this scavenger hunt adventure. Bring the family for an introduction to using map and compass, then follow the clues to navigate through the park on a scavenger hunt. To participate, come to Galena Creek Regional Park (north entrance off the Mt. Rose Highway) on the 15th, any time between 12 noon and 3 p.m., but allow at least an hour for the hunt. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Suggested donation is $5 per family or $3 per person. For more information, call (775) 674-5475.
