Learn about "Gardening in Nevada" through this series of free programs presented by Washoe County Regional Parks & Open Space and the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardener program. The programs will be at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in south Reno, every Tuesday in February and March, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. If you are a northern Nevada gardner and want to learn more about growing green things in our challenging environment, these sessions will provide information and give you a chance to ask questions of UNR Master Gardeners.

The first workshop on February 2, presented by Master Gardener Michael Janik, is about growing fruit trees in Nevada. I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but it can be done and Janik is an expert on the subject. Subsequent sessions will be as follows...

  • February 9: Rose Care and Selection 101
  • February 16: Raising Small Livestock in an Urban Environment
  • February 23: Understanding Proper Tree Care
  • March 2: Selecting and Caring for Fruit Trees
  • March 9: Gardening "A Roll Of The Dice"
  • March 16: It's All in the Family
  • March 23: The Keys to Successful Vegetable Gardening
  • March 30: Open Question Night

For more information, call University of Nevada Cooperative Extension at (775) 784-4848.
