It's no secret that prostitution is legal in certain Nevada counties. Up to recently, however, prostitutes were defined as women. A change in rules by the Nevada State Board of Health has added STD testing requirements for male sex workers, opening the door for men to enter the industry in Nevada. Gender equity has long been discussed in relation to legal prostitution in Nevada and, like it or not, it's here.

Nye County in southern Nevada is the first to approve the change on a local level (legal prostitution is a county option). The Shady Lady Ranch near Beatty will be the first to put "prostidudes" on staff. Two of Nye's licensing board members voted against the change, citing concerns that all health issues had not been properly considered.

Of Nevada's 17 counties, these have legal prostitution in some form - Churchill, Elko, Esmeralda, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, and White Pine. Eureka County has no laws either legalizing or prohibiting prostitution. Douglas and Lincoln Counties, as well as Nevada's major population centers - Washoe, Clark, and Carson City Counties - do not have brothel prostitution. Any form of prostitution not allowed by Nevada state law is illegal everywhere.

What's your opinion? Are male prostitutes okay? Should regulated brothel prostitution be allowed at all? Take our poll and/or register your thoughts with a comment.
