City of Reno Layoffs Coming

The Reno City Council is expected to approve a city employee reduction in force (the euphemism for layoffs) at a special meeting today at 1:30 p.m. At issue is a $3.6 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year, precipitated by a continuing decline in recession-depleted revenues. Also affected will be Redevelopment Agency employees. The meeting will be in the Reno City Hall Council Chambers, One East First Street. The meeting agenda is available online.
