Ho, Ho, Ho! 'Tis naughty to throw your Christmas tree in the trash (or dump it in the desert) after the holidays. For proper disposal, take natural trees to be recycled through the annual Christmas Tree Recycling program coordinated by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB). From December 26, 2009 through January 18, 2010, there will be three places around the area to drop off clean (not flocked), decoration-free trees.
  • Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Rd. (off Lakeside Dr.) in Reno
  • Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, 1595 N. Sierra St. (west side at Coleman St. entrance) in Reno
  • Shadow Mt. Sports Complex, 3300 Sparks Blvd. (Shadow Ln. entrance) in Sparks
Daily hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A $3 donation is requested to support this and other community efforts. Recycling trees helps conserve landfill space, reduces illegal dumping, and provides mulch for area parks. Last year, over 11,000 trees were recycled.

KTMB is seeking volunteers to help out at the recycling locations. To get more information or to sign up, call (775) 851-5185.
