In one of the first post-season bowl games, our University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Wolf Pack will be taking on the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs in the Hawaii Bowl on December 24. UNR (8-4) played to second place in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and SMU finished with a 7-5 record in the western division of Conference USA. This will be the fifth year in a row the Wolf Pack has appeared in a bowl game and the first since 1984 for the Mustangs. UNR last played in the Hawaii Bowl in 2005, winning 49-48 over Central Florida.

The Hawaii Bowl is played in Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, Hawaii. Kickoff is 5 p.m. Pacific time, on Christmas Eve. I originally reported that the game would not be on TV, but a reader has corrected me - it will be on ESPN, both cable and satellite, as well as on radio ESPN/630 AM starting at 4 p.m. According to the betting line, Nevada is a 14 point favorite. GO PACK!

NewzJunkie, your video is nice. However, your commentator Allen (the short guy) needs to study up on our state a bit. Check out my glossary for the proper pronounciation of the word Nevada. Good luck – whoever wins, it should be a good game.

As a “journalist” you need to do your research a little better. The game IS on tv. dish network ch 140 and whatever channel ESPN is on cable. Do you even live in NEVADA? GO PACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK Brian, thanks for the correction. Yes, I live in Nevada (Reno), but don’t spend as much time studying the TV listings as you apparently do. Actually, I don’t subscribe to cable or satellite TV – got better things to do.

Well, the Wolf Pack got stomped in the Hawaii Bowl, losing to SMU 45 to 10. They went into the game a 14 point favorite but may as well have stayed in Reno.
