The Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) has finally rolled out the new tourism slogan it's been working on for a long time. If you will recall, the first slogan proposal, "A Little West of Center," was soundly shot down a couple of months ago by Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and a group of tourism business execs. The new improved and approved tourism tag line will be "Reno Tahoe USA... Far from expected." You'll start seeing the slogan in marketing aimed at bringing in more visitors as it replaces the old "America's Adventure Place" campaign.

Now it's up to the RSCVA to kick the whole thing into gear and reverse many years of declining visitation. To do that effectively is going to take an estimated $1.8 to $2.4 million, with much of it being solicited from the area's big resort properties. The target audiences are those who have never been here and those who haven't visited in at least three years and may not be aware of the area's newest attractions (Reno Aces baseball, Scheels and Cabela's, Legends at Sparks Marina, whitewater parks on the Truckee River, etc.). The new Reno Tahoe campaign tagline unveiled article from the RSCVA has lots of details on the whole campaign.

Meanwhile, the economic malaise is affecting the RSCVA along with everyone else. To close a budget gap of nearly $1 million, seven permanent employees are being let go and those remaining will be taking some unpaid furloughs. Operational cuts are being made as well. Just how far "Far from expected" takes us remains to be seen.
