One of the few growth industries these days is fraud. Playing on people's fears and insecurities, scammers and crooks are having a field day coming up with ever more clever ways to steal your money. We've all heard of the big ones like identity theft and credit card fraud, but how about bogus loan modification, medical fraud, social media scams, senior fraud, ATM skimming scams - the number of angles out there is truly astounding.

The Nevada Fraud Taskforce, a coalition of government agencies and private sector groups, will be in town on Tuesday, November 17, to present two sessions of a free seminar titled Don't Be a Victim! Learn to Protect Yourself from Fraud. The one hour sessions will cover top tips on fraud prevention, teach you about how to avoid being a victim, and cover what to do if you get scammed. You can follow up and check regularly for the latest scams on the Nevada Fraud Taskforce website.

The presentations will be at these locations...

  • 2:30 p.m. - Sparks Library, 1125 12th Street, Sparks. (775) 352-3200.
  • 5:30 p.m. - North Valleys Library, 1075 North Hills Blvd. #340, Reno. (775) 972-0281.
